The online shopping event is often used by computer criminals to gather information anonymously from malicious sites. How to avoid it? The Following are the tips for safe online purchase.

As every year in these dates, from 00:00 hours on Monday 28 and until Wednesday 30 will be held in Chile a new version of the cyber day shopping event, an occasion where dozens of virtual stores open their doors with discounts and promotions For the users.

According to a study carried out in 2017 by the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago (CCS), Internet sales have grown over the last three years at double-digit rates, with an average increase of 29%, and an increase in transactions over the same period. 30%, also highlighting the increase in online channel participation within card purchases, increasing more than 5 percentage points in the last four years.

But there are also some related dangers: in the cyber day 2017, only in the first hours of the event, 360,500 attack attempts were mitigated. And from the beginning until 8 or 9 hours later, 344,187 simultaneous visitors had entered the different related sites, mostly from mobile devices.

Jaime Soto, Secretary General of the Chilean Association of Information Technology Companies (ACTI), gave some useful information so that users have a satisfactory experience, considering aspects such as security of the transaction, payment and also the device that is going to use for the purchase.

The first thing to keep in mind is that it is best to enter the offers from the official website of cyber day, protected portal of cyber attacks, looking at the information in the bar of the web address “https: //”, where the ” S “is the certification signal that indicates that this website is secure.

Care should always be taken when receiving links in emails or notices on social networks. The recommendation is always to go to the browser and open there the official website with the offer. It is preferable not to open emails of unknown origin and not to access the links suggested there.

Another way to recognize a malicious site is when you start asking for more personal information than usual. When something like that happens, you have to be more careful when you give the data and make sure that the web you are entering is reliable, as well as find out if the offers are true, because many can be a hoax.

The other point is the secure wi-fi networks. A public network (cafes, cybercafés, universities, airports) should never be used for this type of transactions since they can be used by criminals to store personal information if the transmission is intercepted.

As for the devices, we must verify that the antivirus of the computer or mobile device is up to date and working, as well as download official applications.

In relation to safe online purchase with cards, Jaime Soto points out that the first thing is to see through what means will be paid, and then to ensure that the purchasing process was satisfactory, we must check that the mail with the confirmation of the transaction come to personal mail. That mail must contain the confirmation of the purchase, the date, the amount, etc.

Then, it is important to constantly check the bank’s summaries. For that, nothing better than taking a detail of or purchased and then, at the end of the month, compare it with what appears charged.
